Associated Packaging Technologies (APT) is partnering with a number of top food companies on recycled PET trays. We were the first to bring RePET (recycled PET) frozen food trays to market in North America. The trays we developed use a high percentage of post-consumer recycled plastic and divert a minimum of 10 million pounds of plastic from landfills every year. That translates into a savings of 250 million BTUs of energy, which is enough energy to run 2,600 average American homes for one year. The RePET trays will also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15,000 tons of CO₂ per year, which is the same as taking nearly 2,000 cars off the road annually. APT is employing a new process that cleans recycled plastic for use as a component in frozen food trays. The new ultra-clean technology, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for direct food contact, makes it safe for consumers.
